Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Cornelis Roos was influenced by Dutch masters of The Hague School and 19th century French Barbizon School. His landscapes of the Dutch countryside depict
the dreary mood of the North Sea, inescapable clouds, and the frigid air. Roos' nostalgic works capture the desolate solitude and leisure of his homeland. In the later part of his life, Roos moved to California where he began painting the rugged countryside and expansive Pacific Ocean. He
held several acclaimed exhibitions in Carmel, Beverly Hills, and La Jolla, attracting notoriety throughout the region for his art.
